Many local plants lend themselves to basket making. In this workshop, we will create a coiled vessel with kudzu vines!
Coiling is a hand-stitching process that transforms a continuous bundle of fibers into a strong and versatile container. Found in cultures worldwide, it is a perfect technique to create one-of-a-kind baskets from plants growing in your backyard.
In this workshop, you will learn:
Depending on your work pace, you will be able to complete a small basket and leave with the skills to continue on your own.
Great for beginning basket makers and folks who enjoy working with needle and thread. This technique does require adequate hand strength and dexterity to support the repetitive motion of stitching the coils.
INVESTMENT: $95 includes all materials (but students are encouraged to bring some tools. See below.)
Please note- if this workshop has your heart singing and you cannot afford to join me, be in touch for a scholarship, sliding scale or work trade option. There is a spot reserved in each workshop for reduced or waived fee.
