Backyard Baskets: Coiling with Natural Materials :: May 22, 2022 :: 1-5pm
Many local plants lend themselves to basket making. In this workshop, we will create a coiled vessel using iris, daylily and grasses harvested from cultivated gardens and wild places.
Coiling is a hand-stitching process that transforms a continuous bundle of fibers into a strong and versatile container. Found in cultures worldwide, it is a perfect technique to create one-of-a-kind baskets from plants growing in your backyard.
In this workshop, you will learn:
- which plants work well for coiling
- how to harvest, dry and prepare fibers
- stitching and finishing techniques.
Depending on your work pace, you will be able to complete a small basket and leave with the skills to do this again on your own.
Great for beginning basket makers and those with weaving experience that want to learn more about using local plants.
INVESTMENT: $70 with a $10 materials fees

The Patchwork Underground is a gathering place for creativity. With art gardens and studio space surrounded by nature, you will find yourself immersed in beauty that inspires. Join us for workshops and get-togethers as we explore the possibility of

ACCESSIBILITY: The Patchwork Underground is within 20 minutes of downtown Asheville. The outdoor workshop spaces are accessed by walking over a textured field, or accessible by vehicle if needed. Indoor restroom facilities are accessible by stairs.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellations made 22 days or more before the scheduled class date will receive a full refund.
Cancellations made less than 2 weeks before the scheduled class date will be eligible a full refund if someone from the waitlist is able to fill your spot. Otherwise, you will receive a 50% refund or you can transfer your registration to a future workshop within the calendar year.
