Natural Dyes and Patches: Remaking our Closets :: July 18, 10-5 pm
Fast fashion culture is made of disposable goods that exploits humans, environment and material resources. Let’s challenge the system. We will reinvent our closets by adding color through natural dyes and mend the tears with creative stitches. You will have the opportunity to dye 1-3 garments (depending on size) and a stack of patches using plant based colors. You will learn several stitching techniques to patch the torn spots, creating unique clothing pieces with an extended lifespan.
You will learn:
- Natural dye basics for cellulose fibers (cotton, linen, hemp)
- Mordants and fiber preparation
- Making dye baths from extracts and home grown plants
- simple mending techniques for patching your worn or torn clothes
INVESTMENT: $100 with a $20 materials fees
Please note- if this workshop has your heart singing and you cannot afford to join me, be in touch for a scholarship, sliding scale or work trade option. There is a spot reserved in each workshop for reduced or waived fee.
