String Grid Make and Take Sessions :: July 30, 2026
String grids are a delightful mix of pattern and spontaneity. These make and take sessions will walk you through preparing a frame with string and dipping your frame into paper pulp, a high shrink plant fiber that creates a beautiful mix of open windows and solid shapes. Alyssa's paper quilt wall pieces have been a favorite for many folks and it's exciting to share a bit about the process with you in these hands-on sessions.
Each participant needs to bring their own frame- something between a 5 x 7" and an 8 x10. A used picture frame or other handmade frame will work. Or you can bring a circle, like an embroidery hoop, no more than 8" in diameter. Each frame will yield 2 string grids or paper quilts after they are cut off the frame.
This is a family friendly event. Each person who brings a frame should have a ticket. For example: 1 parent and 1 child who bring 2 frames should purchase 2 tickets. If 1 parent and 1 child share a frame and make it together, then only one ticket is needed.

INVESTMENT: $20-30 per person. In an effort make this offering available to more people, there is a sliding scale ticket price. Choose the ticket cost and session time below. There are 4 tickets for each price available for each session.

The Patchwork Underground is a gathering place for creativity. With art gardens and studio space surrounded by nature, you will find yourself immersed in beauty that inspires. Join us for workshops and get-togethers as we explore the possibility of working with plants to create art.
ACCESSIBILITY: The Patchwork Underground is within 25 minutes of downtown Asheville. The outdoor workshop spaces are in a grassy backyard, accessed by walking over a textured field, or accessible by vehicle if needed.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Cancellations made 15 days or more before the scheduled class date will receive a full refund minus processing fees.
Cancellations made less than 2 weeks before the scheduled class date will be eligible a refund minus processing fees only if someone from the waitlist is able to fill your spot. Otherwise, you will receive a 50% refund or you can transfer your registration to a future workshop within the calendar year.
Cancellations made 7 days or less before the workshop are not eligible for a refund.
