Introduction to Papermaking :: Friday, May 29, 2025 :: 10-4pm
This workshop will give you hands-on experience working with several commercially available pulps to learn the basics of western style mould and deckle papermaking. As you understand how different fibers react in sheet form, you will be able to identify what kinds of paper will be best suited for your artistic endeavors.
You will learn:
- how to process papermaking fibers into pulp
- what tools and equipment are needed for papermaking
- how to pull, press and dry sheets of paper
There will be multiple vats of pulp for you to explore. Each participant will take home a stack of sample papers. It’s up to you how you use the finished sheets.
All are welcome. No experience necessary.

ACCESSIBILITY: The Patchwork Underground is within 25 minutes of downtown Asheville. The outdoor workshop spaces are in a grassy backyard, accessed by walking over a textured field, or accessible by vehicle if needed. Indoor restroom facilities are accessible by stairs or by going around to the front of the house which has 2 small step ups into the front door.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Cancellations made 15 days or more before the scheduled class date will receive a full refund minus processing fees.
Cancellations made less than 2 weeks before the
scheduled class date will be eligible a refund minus processing fees only if
someone from the waitlist is able to fill your spot. Otherwise, you will
receive a 50% refund or you can transfer your registration to a future workshop
within the calendar year.
Cancellations made 7 days or less before the workshop
are not eligible for a refund.

as possible if you determine that you need to cancel.
